Nitric Oxide is a sweet-smelling, colorless, gas. In its liquid form, it is a bluish liquid. In its solid form, it is a bluish-white snow-like solid. It is one of five oxides. The other four oxides of nitrogen are: Nitrous Oxide (N20), Nitric Oxide (NO), Dinitrogen Trioxide (N203), and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2). Even though it is toxic in the environment it plays important roles in the human body. Extra info:
* Formula: NO
* Elements: Nitrogen, Oxygen
* Compound Type: Nonmetallic oxide (inorganic)

Chemical Compound of the Day: Methyl Mercaptan
Methyl Mercaptan is a foul-smelling compound. It smells of rotten cabbage. It is released from decay6ing animals and vegetable matter. Even if this compound is a natural compound, if you inhale it, it will irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs, producing dizziness, headache, vomiting, muscle weakness, and loss of coordination. If you inhale too much of it, it will damage the nervous system. After-effects: Respiratory-failure leading to death. Extra Info:
*Formula: CH3SH
*Elements: Carbon, Hydrogen, Sulfur
Compound Type: Mercaptan; thiol (organic)
State: Gas
*Formula: CH3SH
*Elements: Carbon, Hydrogen, Sulfur
Compound Type: Mercaptan; thiol (organic)
State: Gas

Chemical Compound of the Day: Nicotine
Nicotine is a yellow, oily, liquid with a bitter taste. If you expose it to the air, it will turn brown. Higher doses of this compound are in tobacco leaves. Lower doses of this compound are in tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, and green peppers. Nicotine is named after the tobacco plant : Nicotiana Tabacum.
For more info:
*Formula: C5H4NC4H7NCH3
*Elements:Carbon, Hydrogen, nitrogen
*Compound Type: Alkaloid (Organic)
*State: Liquid
Nicotine can make small arteries condense, putting strain on heart and raising blood pressure. Nicotine poisoning can cause alot of hazardous symptoms. So, don't ever think about smoking cigarettes.
P.S. Nicotine is the addictive item in cigarettes.

My Water Fun!
Yesterday, after lunch, my mother inflated a plastic inflatable pool. She filled it up with water. Then, my little brother and I dressed up and dived into the pool. Then I went under the water and rolled 4 times. I was able to swim under water even though it was pretty shallow. The sad thing was, there was a tree with alot of flowers falling down and alot of them fell into the pool. So, I decided we could wade under the water. So, whenever we left one side, as we waded the flowers got pushed away from us. I wish I could swim again today. But, my mom said only on Friday. Ok, bye!

Chemical Compound of the Day: Lactose
Lactose is called milk sugar. You might of heard of people that are lactose intolerant. That means they are not able to digest lactose (the milk sugar)in the milk. I am lactose intolerant. But, if you drink a different type of milk it will make you feel better. Info about Lactose:
- Elements: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen
- Formula: C12H22011
- Disaccharide;carbohydrate (organic)
- State:Solid

Menthol
Menthol comes from mint leaves. In it's actual form it is a white crystalline material. It has a cool, soothing, odor. A certain type of Pain Balm I saw at my house contained menthol. Vicks Vapor Rub does contain menthol. Menthol is an ancient herbal medicine. Menthol Info:
- Made up of the elements: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen
- Formula: CH3C6H9(C3H7)OH
- Type: Organic
- Form: Solid

Chemical Compound of the Day: Ethylene Glycol
Do not ever think about making someone ingest this! Don't you ever drink it either! I don't know how this was found out, but someone has definitely ingested this before because I read somewhere that this compound is a clear, SWEET, SYRUPY, liquid. Anyway, 9 billion lbs. of this compound has been produced in the United States every year. Now, what will happen to you if you ingest it? You basically will DIE! It has a sweet taste so if anyone gets their hands on it, they will want more and simply will die of kidney damage. Antifreeze contains this compound so don't drink antifreeze either! Ok, bye!

My Weird July 4th of 2010!
Tomorrow is July 4th! Saturday Night! Can't wait till morning. Not sleeping whole night. Waking up tired in the morning. This sounds like how I would be a night before a trip. It wasn't just the fireworks I was excited of. I was excited of how the city, Emeryville, was going to be-including the rest of the trip. We drove and stopped at Berkley which is pretty close to Emeryville. They had a park there. My favorite part of that was a trolley. You have to climb a rope with a red tire-like thing. You sit on it and it will swing you. It's like a gondola except it's small, open-spaced, and faster. And the rope at the end, swings you off, and you go land on a pile of sand. Then came the hotel which was rather well- maintained and good service until the dreaded thing came. As fireworks time dawned on us fireworks began but we could see nothing being on one of the top floors. Plus, they took $20 from us just for that. So, our July 4th didn't act as planned. But, I felt that the next day was even more fun even though we were leaving. The reason being we took a ferry from Sausalito to San Francisco. It was really fun going on the back of the ship instead of inside. Also, it was fun just exploring the other side of San Francisco. i thought it was better than the other San Francisco I've seen more than once. Getting onto the Golden Gate Bridge nowadays, is not tough. So, we went on that bridge and the Bay Bridge. The Bay Bridge looks like a crown at night. So after we came back to Sausalito, we drove back home.

Chemical Compound of the Day: Ethyl Alcohol
It's very obvious if any ordinary person were to see it, that this is plainly an alcohol. It especially has the effects that a drunk person would have after drinking. Although, if a chemist or a specialist in this area were to see this compound they would think deep into the molecules what the description is and probably even more.
Ethyl alcohol is a burnable clear, colorless liquid with a sharp, burning taste and a wine-like odor. (I don't like the smell of wine.) Extra Info:
Formula: CH3CH2OH
Elements: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen
Type: Organic
Fun Fact: Purell Hand Sanitizer contains 62% of this compound.
This is a simple overview of this compound.
