Disdain means to despise someon in the lower rank than you. Rank meaning like cast. On the highest rank would be probably a wealthy king that is selfish. It's possible that in the lower cast there could be beggar or sage. So, if that wealthy, selfish , king despised the beggars and sages, that would be disdaining them. We would probably be in the middle rank. Even though we wouldn't be in the lowest cast of all, that wealthy, selfish, king could disdain us.
